Teach Outdoors offers a Whole School Approach to Outdoor Learning. There are some funded sponsorship opportunities for schools to undertake the Teach Outdoors Schools Programme. (Please note these are not guaranteed)

The programme, designed to support you in implementing and embedding a whole-school outdoor learning ethos in your school, has been developed using a research-informed model. This approach means that outdoor learning will become an intrinsic part of your school identity. If you are a school that wants to commit to sustainably integrating outdoor learning across the whole school community, then this is the programme for you.

Phases of the Teach Outdoors Whole School Programme

Phase One - Explore

– A senior leader or Outdoor Leader from a school recognises the need to develop whole school outdoor learning
– Receive details of the Whole School Programme
– Book a call to check it’s the right programme for your school

Phase 2 - Year One

-Work with SLT and Outdoor Leaders to develop your vision, values and aims for outdoor learning
– Growing As A Leader Training for your Outdoor Lead to support leading change throughout the whole school.
– Outdoor Leader Training (in-person over 2 days with SLT invited to day 1) All the resources and materials to cascade train your team.

This includes 5 main modules:
Unit 1 – What is Outdoor Learning and What are the Benefits?
Unit 2 – Safety and Routines
Unit 3 – Curriculum Planning
Unit 4 – Monitoring Impacts
Unit 5 – Developing a Whole School Approach

– Teach Outdoors Teacher Status on completion of the training
– Core subject leader training to support the development of outdoor learning in English, Maths and Science
– Whole team access to an online bank of curriculum-base resources
– Whole team access to monthly CPD sessions on how to utilise outdoor spaces from professionals such as Occupational Therapists
– On-demand recorded training in the CPD bank to support how you utilise outdoor spaces.
– Access to an online network of subject experts and other Teach Outdoors Schools
-Recognition of your school commitment with the official recognition as a Teach Outdoors School.

Phase 3: Working toward self-sustaining stage (2-5 years)

– Support in implementing and developing your vision for whole school learning
– Support to use the Teach Outdoors Whole School Development Stages for Outdoor Learning to identify targetted next steps
– Continued support for leadership training e.g. support members of staff who are more reluctant
– Access to regular Teach Outdoors Schools network meetings
– Access to curriculum-linked resources
– Opportunities to be involved in research projects
– Access to monthly CPD workshops and on-demand training
– Focus on wider community links e.g curriculum workshops, nature clubs, outdoor homework options
