There’s nothing better than sitting around a fire reading, reflecting on your learning/thoughts, sharing your writing or a piece of work you are proud of. So many times we’ve witnessed reluctant learners who become eager to try and improve their writing so they can share it around a fire. At Teach Outdoors we call these celebration fires as it is an opportunity for a small group or class to come together and celebrate their learning success or reflect on their thoughts and feelings.
We have designed fire training for you and your teaching team to lead your own celebration fire in your school grounds.
The training includes:
- Suggested kit and resources required
- How to set up a safe fire zone
- Starting a fire in a fire pit
- Organising your class or group around your fire pit
- Rules around the fire
- Extinguishing the fire
- Risk benefit assessment examples
Only trained adults should lead the fire sessions and it is not our intention that these sessions encourage children to start, monitor, interact with or extinguish the fire. If you would like to offer this in your school we suggest you have Level 3 Forest School Training. We advise all schools to check with their insurance provider to ensure they have appropriate cover in place to offer adult led fire sessions.
