BETA Training Offer – On Demand
Welcome to our brand new, innovative online course for supporting dyslexia outside the traditional learning setting! This BETA course is for you if you are looking for a comprehensive program to understand dyslexia and discover the untapped potential of outdoor environments in aiding dyslexic learners or those struggling with reading, writing, and spelling. We delivered the course live online and recorded the sessions. Â Due to demand, we are offering the recorded sessions for you to watch and work through the programme at your own pace.
The live sessions provided the opportunity to work in a small group with experienced teachers and dyslexia specialists, Annie Burnett and Jo Clanfield. Each unit will be introduced through the online sessions and the follow-up tasks will provide opportunities to apply the knowledge and skills. The training was created so you can develop your knowledge while supporting students. As this is a recording of BETA course, we have put it on offer for £100. It will never be this low-cost again!
In each module, you’ll embark on a journey of discovery, uncovering how outdoor environments can be harnessed to support dyslexic learners in ways that traditional classroom settings cannot. Using the multi-sensory activities, you’ll learn practical strategies to create inclusive learning environments that cater to diverse learning needs. The original training was delivered over 12 weeks, to give delegates time to learn and apply knowledge with the children they work with.
Dyslexia Outside the Box is an interactive intervention training program designed to empower you with the skills and confidence needed to implement dyslexic support strategies in outdoor environments, such as school grounds or even your home garden.
What does the training cover?Â
In Module 1, “Introduction to Dyslexia and Outdoor Learning,” we’ll dive into the fundamentals of dyslexia, examining its definition and presentation in the classroom. We’ll explore the link between dyslexia support and outdoor environments, backed by compelling research on the benefits of outdoor learning. You’ll learn how to harness your school’s outdoor space to create inclusive learning environments and kickstart the initial assessment process with Task 1.
Module 2, “Reading Support,” delves into the intricacies of reading difficulties and barriers for dyslexic learners. Through the outdoor strategies provided, you’ll discover how to break down these barriers and foster reading development. Task 2 will guide you in translating reading theory into practical, outdoor-based interventions.
In Module 3, “Spelling Support,” we’ll tackle the challenges of spelling proficiency among dyslexic students. Armed with outdoor strategies tailored to spelling development, you’ll be able to trial how you can support your students to overcome spelling barriers. Task 3 will help you integrate spelling theory into your outdoor teaching practices.
Next, in Module 4, “Writing Support,” we’ll explore the complexities of writing difficulties experienced by dyslexic learners. We explore strategies to support writing outdoors and fun, active ways to enhance writing skills. Task 4 will provide you with the opportunity to put writing theory into action in your outdoor classroom.
Finally, in Module 5, “Reflection,” we’ll take a step back to review the impact of our interventions and identify the next steps for our chosen students. Through the feedback session, you’ll have the chance to reflect on your journey and how you could use your new knowledge and skills to support learners in your setting.
